Five O'Clock Shadow

I went on a bee count the other day. I found ten paper wasps nesting in our car port. Dozens of feral bumblebees bizzing around in a field of velvety golden vetch. And a batch of rusted red ladybugs crawling across the dill plants that have sprouted along the chain-linked edges of the abandoned runways at Alameda Naval Station. All this lay minutes away from this quonset hut.
