Five O'Clock Shadow

I went on a bee count the other day. I found ten paper wasps nesting in our car port. Dozens of feral bumblebees bizzing around in a field of velvety golden vetch. And a batch of rusted red ladybugs crawling across the dill plants that have sprouted along the chain-linked edges of the abandoned runways at Alameda Naval Station. All this lay minutes away from this quonset hut.

Chimney

Possibly the most comical, yet deadly serious-looking, part of a Quonset Hut is the chimney, or vent, with its pointy little hat.

No Smoking

I like this Quonset hut's rounded form, its rusted mystery, the stained padlock, the blood-red no smoking sign.

This Quonset hut sits at the former Alameda Naval Station and is numbered "194."
The US military created 1,000s of such huts during World War 11.
What lies within this one is a mystery.

Welcome to the Quonset Hut, a place to note ideas and assemble thoughts while spinning in space.
